A trough of low pressure will extend over Quebec and start to push further east throughout the day on Wednesday.
"The Maritimes could see less than 5 cm of snow, before transitioning over to rain. There is also the potential for freezing rain in some areas," says Gina Ressler, a meteorologist at The Weather Network. "More snow however, is expected in Newfoundland."
Snow ahead of this system will start to fall over the southwestern areas Wednesday afternoon, and spread to eastern Newfoundland by the evening hours.
The southwest regions could see between 5-10 cm of snow before transitioning over to rain. Up to 15 cm is possible for the Avalon with the potential for ice pellets and freezing rain.
This messy mix is expected to impact the commute, so be sure to check future forecasts and warnings before hitting
