Midweek Snowstorm for Upper Midwest

A storm bringing snow to the mountains in California to start the week will spread a swath of accumulating snow to portions of the Upper Midwest during the middle of the week.
While the storm will not have a huge amount of cold air to work with, it will be just cold enough for snow in part of the central Plains and the Great Lakes.
Over the Ohio Valley region, this will be a warmer storm with mostly rain, compared to the system during the first part of the week that delivered snow as far south as Arkansas and the Tennessee Valley.

The storm will bring a few inches of snow to portions of Colorado Tuesday into Tuesday night.

While the storm will bring mostly rain to Kansas City Wednesday, farther to the north, travel headaches are possible. The exact track of the storm will determine weather Omaha and Des Moines are in the thick of the heavier snow area.
During Wednesday night into Thursday, a half a foot of snow or more may fall over portions of central Wisconsin to the northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. A wintry mix is possible around Chicago and Detroit, before a change to rain.
In most areas it is the timing of the snow or wintry mix that is critical. In areas where frozen precipitation falls at night or first thing in the morning, roads stand the best chance at being slippery.

The storm will continue to move along late in the week. However, the mid-Atlantic and coastal New England will experience the same fate as that of the Ohio Valley. The northerly track of this storm will bring rain to most of these areas.
Farther north, a few inches of snow are possible in northern New England and a wintry mix is in store for part of the central Appalachians and eastern Great Lakes area, before a change to rain.
