Rain streaming into Florida, with Daytona Beach in its path, threatens to delay the first race of the year for NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series.
Daytona Beach started this morning on a dry note, but rain will spend the midday hours moving through.
More rain is likely to follow through the afternoon, which would force officials to delay or postpone the much-anticipated Daytona 500.
AccuWeather.com Expert Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski first warned of this threat late last week.
Unfortunately, the forecast has taken a wetter turn since Sosnowski first reported on the possibility.
If race officials decide to postpone the race, the forecast doesn't look much better on Monday.
More rain will move through the Florida Peninsula on Monday before dry weather finally returns on Tuesday.
AccuWeather.com has more information on the weather history of the Daytona 500 in a specially made "infographic."
