Snow Showers, Gusty Winds Spread into Interior Northeast

Feb 22, 2012; 5:33 AM ET
After several inches of snow whitened parts of the Plains and winds whipped across the nation's heartland, gusty winds and some snow continued to lash the upper Midwest on Tuesday. The brisk winds and snow showers will expand into the interior Northeast tonight into Wednesday.
As an area of low pressure slides along the United States/Canadian border tonight into Wednesday, snow showers will fly across to the Interior Northeast.
Snow showers will spread across northern New York through northern New England tonight
.

Although the snow is not expected to be steady in most places, a coating to an inch of fresh powder is possible.
Up to 1-3 inches is possible for areas downwind of Lake Ontario, where some lake enhancement will occur.
Occasional gusts to 35 mph are expected, reducing the visibility at times in the bursts of snow. Some slippery spots could develop on roads as temperatures drop tonight.
Farther west, an additional coating of snow is in store for northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Any remaining showers in areas farther south and west such as Detroit will taper off after the evening as chilly, brisk conditions spread in behind a cold front.
