Residents of Ontario and Quebec will see more all-time March high temperatures put to the test on Wednesday and Thursday as Canada's extraordinary warm spell grinds on.
This week has already caused Winnipeg's monthly maximum temperature record to be rewritten, following Monday's 24-degree C reading. Furthermore, a wide area from the eastern Prairies to the Great Lakes and even James Bay has been as warm as ever happens this time of year.
Wednesday and Thursday, many highs from southern and eastern Ontario to southern and western Quebec will be at or above the 25-degree C (77 F) mark, which is well within the normal range of temperature in July.
Toronto, for instance, will warm to about 25 degrees C. The all-time high for March is 25.6 degrees C (78 F), set on March 28, 1945.
Well away from the chilly Great Lakes, Ottawa will reach at least 25-27 degrees C (77 to 81 F) on Wednesday and Thursday. The Canadian capital's highest March reading on record is 26.7 degrees C (80 F), set on March 29, 1946.
For perspective, daytimes at Ottawa's warmest time of year, mid-July, normally warm to about 27 degrees C.
Likewise, Montreal and Quebec City, will rival their respective warmest ever March days.
Montreal will warm to about 25 degrees C, within striking range of the 25.6 degree C reading of March 28, 1945.
Normally cooler Quebec City would only have to hit 17.8 degrees C (64 F) to match the standing March maximum, dating back to the 30th day of the month in 1962.
Cooling will come to Ontario and Quebec on Friday, ending the spate of record highs. However, above-normal temperatures will predominate through at least the start of April.
