After a weekend that featured snow and dull, damp conditions across a good portion of the East Coast, Mother Nature will sing a different tune this coming week.
As the area of low pressure that produced snow across parts of the mid-Atlantic continues to move farther away from the East coast, a broad area of high pressure will build in from the west.
With high pressure centered over the eastern Great Lakes today, cold, dry air will funnel southward into the Northeast, mid-Atlantic and the Southeast coast.
Temperatures today from southern New England to the Carolinas and Georgia will be close to normal for this time of year.
This cold, dry air will be accompanied by a return of copious amounts of sunshine for most of the East.
With the ridge of high pressure continuing to slide east tomorrow, the main story for the upcoming week will be the increasing temperatures each day.
Tuesday, the dome of high pressure will move off the Eastern Seaboard. This will promote a mild southerly breeze across the East on the back side of the high.
Temperatures will continue to climb into the middle to upper 50s across much of the mid-Atlantic. The 50s could reach as far north as the New York City metropolitan area. Afternoon highs will generally be nearly 10 degrees above normal for this time of year.
In addition to the East Coast, temperatures will also warm this week across the Tennessee and Ohio valleys.
Temperatures will continue to climb during the middle of the week with afternoon high temperatures averaging nearly 10-15 degrees above normal from southern New England to the Carolinas and back towards the Mississippi Valley.
The Washington, D.C., metro area will flirt with the 60-degree mark on Wednesday while temperatures rise into the middle to lower 50s in New York and southern New England. Across the Carolinas, afternoon highs will rise into the 60s.
Afternoon highs in Nashville, Tenn., and surrounding areas could be nearly 20 degrees above normal on both Wednesday and Thursday as temperature rise into the upper 60s and lower 70s.
As warmer air continue to surge even farther northward ahead of a storm system brewing across the Gulf Coast on Thursday, temperatures may near the 60-degree mark in New York City, Philadelphia, Columbus and Indianapolis.
By the weekend, temperatures could take a hit as the jet stream takes a dive into the East Coast from southern Canada
