A storm system currently along the Pacific coast will bring the next round of rain and thunderstorms to the South later this week from Houston to New Orleans, Tallahassee, Atlanta and Myrtle Beach.
While perhaps not as intense as the storm last weekend in terms of rainfall, the next system on deck has the potential to bring another thorough soaking to some areas experiencing abnormally dry to exceptional drought conditions.
The timing for the rain and thunderstorms would be Thursday into Friday.
While it is a bit early to comment on the severity of the storms and intensity of the rainfall slated for late this week, there is likely to be at least some gusty thunderstorm activity with the potential for locally disruptive downpours from coastal Texas to northern Florida, much of Georgia and the Carolinas
.

Rain should hold off Thursday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway for the duel qualifying races. However, there is a chance of prolonged downpours Friday afternoon and evening at Daytona. The truck race is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday
.

The storm this past weekend was responsible for a general 1 to 4 inches of rain from central Texas to northern Florida, much of Georgia and South Carolina. The storm also caused incidents of flash flooding, damaging thunderstorm winds and golf ball-sized hail.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities with the flooding and severe storms this past weekend. However the storm did produce a swath of damage ranging from downed trees and power lines to flooded roadways and high water in some neighborhoods
