AccuWeather.com - Elliot Abrams | Hot Story

Mar 21, 2012; 6:29 AM ET
Wednesday 9 a.m.
I got one of the new iPads last week, and I love the new screen resolution. It has been a hot seller, but stories about the device becoming much hotter than expected have been circulating. I haven't experienced anything like that , but one hot topic right now is the extremely warm weather for this time of year (it took me .awhile to get to that!). Yesterday was the warmest March day ever in many cities. That distinction was shared by Milwaukee, Grand Rapids (Michigan) and Burlington, Vt., with each place having a high temperature of 80 or higher. In Chicago, it has reached 80 six times so far, but it has yet to get that warm even once in Las Vegas, Nev. Who would have made that bet when 2012 started?
In the I-95 corridor and west to the Appalachians, today started with a cloak of dense fog. Airport operations have been delayed quite a bit, and motorists have needed to slow down to maintain safe spacing. In some areas, the fog and low cloudiness has released a dreary drizzle. However, in all cases, once the fog is gone, it will not be mist.
Looking around the country, we see at least three areas with extremes. In the lower elevations of Oregon, rare snow is falling. In parts of Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana...places that were begging for rain last year are now having deadly floods as well as damaging thunderstorms... and there's the record warmth in the Great Lakes and Northeast.
