1. The area of heavy thunderstorms has been expanded to cover a much larger area today from Ohio to Arkansas today into this evening. The weather is just getting too warm for its own good, so the storms just start to develop where any disturbance moves through the jet. Most of the impacts today will be gusty winds and hail with some hail over 1 inch.
2. As I mentioned in the video, the backdoor cold front that is now through Philly and heading southbound will be problematic because the models do not handle the low-level cold air off the ocean very well. The front should go all the way down to eastern North Carolina and back up against the Appalachians. Between the low-level colder air and low clouds, temps will be cut quite a bit in places. So "NO WARMTH FOR YOU!"
3. The major outbreak of severe weather will start on Monday when the trough swings through the West and into the Plains. We could see many tornadoes Monday and Tuesday in the Plains through tornado alley.
