Areas from southeastern Missouri to Kentucky, southern Illinois, Indiana and western Ohio have the potential for strong thunderstorms tonight.
A surge in moist air combined with the overall existing surface warmth and typical upper air chill will provide the foundation for thunderstorms development tonight in part of the Ohio Valley states and near the junction of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers.
The characteristics of the strongest storms will be localized damaging wind gusts and hail.
The storms can also bring frequent lightning and thunder in the middle of night, keeping some folks awake and animals a bit nervous.

Fortunately, a widespread outbreak of severe weather is not expected in this case.
A few of the storm can bring incidents of flash flooding due to their slow-moving and heavy nature.
The risk of locally strong and damaging thunderstorms will shift northward a bit during Thursday, reaching into more of the central Great Lakes region.
