Snow Spreads from Tornado-Ravaged Areas to Virginia

Mar 5, 2012; 3:22 PM ET
Some roads could have a few slushy or slippery spots for the evening commute similar to this photo from Photos.com.
A quick-hitting storm that dumped snow on tornado-ravaged communities will spread snow across a portion of the mid-Atlantic today.
Generally, 1-3 inches of snow will fall from West Virginia through central Virginia. Locally higher amounts of 4 inches can occur, especially over the higher terrain of West Virginia.
The accumulating snow will fall over a thin corridor, staying south of the nation's capitol. However, a few flurries could fly around Washington, D.C.
Roanoke, Lynchburg and Charlottesville, Va., will all lie in the zone receiving 1-3 inches of snow.
Rain will mix in with snow farther south, keep snow accumulations down to a coating to an inch from Danville and Wallops Island, Va., to Salisbury, Md.
By this evening, the snow will wind down across the mid-Atlantic as the fast-moving storm departs the coast.

Farther west, snow showers will taper off across Ohio, eastern Kentucky and western West Virginia by early in the afternoon, but commuters could still run into some black ice.
Lake-effect snow showers downwind of the Great Lakes will also wind down by the afternoon.
