Springlike warmth with highs in the 60s and even 70s will arrive across much of the East this week, bringing a winter thaw.

A large dome of high pressure anchored off the East coast will usher in warmer air from the Plains to the East this week.

Springlike warmth will spread into the Midwest and Ohio Valley through Wednesday. Highs will approach 60 degrees in Chicago, and Detroit will surpass the 60-degree mark on Wednesday.

People will begin reaching for spring clothes in the East on Wednesday as well, but the warmest day for the mid-Atlantic will be on Thursday. Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia will climb into the lower 70s, while New York City and Boston reach into the 60s.

"For areas that have recently received snow showers, it will be a great time to clean salt off your vehicles," AccuWeather.com Chief Forecaster Elliot Abrams said.

In Florida and southern Georgia, highs will soar into the 80s on Thursday and Friday. However, Spring Breakers heading to the east coast beaches in Florida will have to watch for dangerous rip currents.

A cold front sweeping from west to east will drop temperatures closer to normal for the Midwest and Northeast. Temperatures will drop on Thursday for Chicago and Detroit, with falling temperatures in the major Northeast cities on Friday into Saturday. Highs will still hover right around normal straight through the weekend.
