A tropical storm could form over the South China Sea out of low pressure gathering east of southern Vietnam at midweek.
Torrential rain and high winds could reach the south-central coast of Vietnam by Saturday.
As of Wednesday, the center of low pressure was almost 500 miles east of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
A favorable setting of sea surface and atmosphere in the area will allow further organization of this weather system, potentially culminating in a named tropical storm late in the week.
Named tropical storms are infrequent, though not at all unprecedented, during late March and early April in the western North Pacific Ocean tropical basin.
Early spring is within the yearly dry season throughout Vietnam, so any widespread heavy rainfall would be unusual.
