Mainly some statistics today and I will let the numbers do much of the talking.
March was one of the stormy months of the winter from Central California on north. This brought some needed above normal precipitation for central and northern California, including the snowpack in the Sierra. It was a really wet month in the Northwest with up to twice the normal precipitation. But Southern California to Utah and Arizona continued with below normal rain and snow. Here are some select cities for March giving total precipitation and the percentage of normal precipitation.
Here is the snow survey for Monday for the Sierra. The northern Sierra is now above 70% of normal which is far better than it was a month ago. The Central Sierra had some recovery but still averages around only half the normal snowpack. The south basically had no improvement.
