AccuWeather.com - Brett Anderson | Storm Snowfall Forecast

Mar 6, 2012; 11:49 AM ET

A significant Atlantic storm will hit eastern Newfoundland tonight and early Wednesday with strong winds, heavy snow, blowing snow and significant drifting. This storm will be all snow, with the heaviest accumulations over the eastern Avalon Peninsula, including St. John's. Travel in this region will be hazardous tonight and through tomorrow morning.

Satellite image of the storm center well southeast of Nova Scotia from early this afternoon.

Even though this storm will be moving along at a good clip, there could be a period later tonight over the Avalon Peninsula where snowfall rates average 3-5 cm per hour.

I will post the ECMWF weekly forecast interpretation later today.
